I visited my first audience of kindergartners last week. I was invited to read at Loma Portal Elementary School. My reception was very inviting, my audience very well behaved, and they were engaged during the reading and made beautiful color drawings of Monkey.
On my way to the school that morning, I was a bit nervous because for a few years I have been imagining how it will be when I start reading to groups of children. My excitement took over, and it was everything I wished it would be. I really took in the moment and looked around at the 40 kids absorbed in their coloring project.
I have been wondering what colors the kids would paint Monkey and his pillow. They came up with some amazing renditions of my special character.
